Kenya is, hands-down, one of the top family-friendly safari destinations. Kenya is a wild and welcoming country with accommodations that perfectly suit families, activities that will keep the kids - no matter the age - busy for hours, days, weeks, whatever your requirement, and at the same time, allow parents to relax and enjoy. I’ve been visiting Kenya for 20 years now, more than half of that time as a tourism professional, and I can wholeheartedly say that I was blown away by the attention paid to my six-year-old son when we explored Kenya together. It wasn’t just the attention, it was the perceptive approach to the guides, staff and managers. They were always thinking a step ahead: how can we make something fun and unique for this child...how can we help this mom have some time on her own...how can we help make memories to last a lifetime? There’s nothing better than having a massage on the balcony of your suite, knowing that your child is safe and sound beading his little heart out under the tutelage of a group of Maasai mamas. Thank you for that memory, Angama Mara. Other family travel highlights in Kenya? Imagine waking to a giraffe sticking its head through your second story window! Watch mouth-blown glass being formed under a dome of “stars” and pick out your own piece - parents can sit back with a cappuccino while the kids explore the sculpture gardens. Foster an orphaned elephant and visit it at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, kid-friendly picnic lunches on the vast savannahs, learn how to (properly) climb a tree, camp in a real tent (mom doesn’t have to make breakfast!), shoot a bow and arrow. Gather together, as a family, around a big table, laugh and tell stories about your day. These will be the stories of your children’s life, and they are next generation of travelers and conservationists in the making.
