Tanzania is a beautiful country for walking, hiking and exploring on foot. From its soaring peaks of Kilimanjaro and Meru to the hot and dry Rift Valley, opportunities abound to get out of the vehicle and feel Africa under foot. Lyndsay has walked a long way in Tanzania and some of her favorite paths include day walks in the Kakessio area of the Ngorongoro Crater based from Serian Serengeti South Camp, searching for footprints, wild fruit and Maasai beehives for fresh honey; hiking along the Eyasi Escarpment looking down at Lake Eyasi is one of the most picturesque hikes; tracking chimpanzees in the Mahale Mountains can be a very challenging hike, but well worth the pay-off. Lastly, Amani Travel works with a very special Tanzania-based operation that runs mobile walking safaris in the Maasai lands of the Ngorongoro Crater, Empakai and Lake Natron. Walking safaris and fly camping is available in the Southern parks, as well, and some amazing cultural walks and long strolls are available on the islands of Zanzibar.
